Design sophisticated technical solutions to aid public and private clientele with automating and monitoring industrial and environmental systems.

Responsibilities

Design, troubleshoot, interpret, and develop PLC, HMI/SCADA, data communication and electrical control systems.

  • Design UL 508A panel layouts and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD, and supervise construction activities 
  • Consult on, supervise, and document the development of SCADA and PLC systems 
  • Perform take-offs, estimating, and compiling submittals for projects 
  • Design desktop and server PC hardware and OS systems for SCADA 
  • Design and integrate wired and wireless Ethernet and Serial data networks 
  • Perform, analyze, and report on radio site surveys
  • Supervise the construction of electrical, instrumentation, and PLC infrastructure 
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, report on, and recommend service of SCADA, PLC, instrumentation, motor controls, and process analyzers 
  • Perform and document process instrumentation verification and calibration 
  • Be a primary contact to assigned clients and coordinate the resolution of their needs, concerns, or requests 
  • Create as-built documentation, control narratives, and operations manuals 
  • Develop, perform and/or supervise I/O loop and end-to-end testing, and FAT / SAT operations. 
  • Measure voltage, resistance, and current of electrical circuits 
  • Acquire material quotes and place orders from vendors  
  • Represent the Company at project design and construction meetings

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is preferred, but not required. A degree can be substituted with extensive and verifiable experience in the design of SCADA systems, PLC controls, and control panels. 
  • A minimum of ten years of experience with industrial control system design (preferably in the water and wastewater industries) with at least 5 years of experience programming and configuring SCADA software packages and PLC platforms.

A Control Systems Engineer is expected to: 

  • Demonstrate a high level of technical integrity and ethics, upholding privacy and security for both clients and the company, 
  • Have strong troubleshooting skills, with an ability to define problems by establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions, 
  • Provide exceptional customer service, practicing active listening to understand needs and clearly communicating the plan both verbally and in writing, 
  • Obtain within 3 months of hire a UL 508A Master Technical Representative certification,  
  • Obtain and maintain an ISA Certified Automation Professional credential,  
  • Possess a valid California class C driver’s license, with a clean driving record, and 
  • Spend approximately 80% of time in the office and 20% in the field (at client locations), with infrequent overnight stay required as needed.
