Opportunity

This is a dynamic role, requiring a Class A for driving a vacuum truck and hauling trailers, operating construction equipment, and building/servicing water and wastewater treatment plants.

Responsibilities

CDL A Driving and Equipment Operation

  • Drive and operate a vacuum truck to clean tanks and lift stations, as well as haul waste for safe disposal. 
  • Handle a variety of construction equipment, such as a(n) aerial boom lift, crane truck, forklift/telehandler, excavator, track loader, etc. 
  • Operate heavy machinery to perform digging, loading, grading, and compaction tasks according to project plans. 
  • Communicate cross-functionally with engineers and construction personnel to ensure safety and project efficiency. 
  • Perform routine daily maintenance and documentation on all trucks, trailers and heavy equipment, including fueling, servicing, and mechanical repairs.

Field Service

  • Perform mechanical, plumbing, and controls troubleshooting on equipment such as valves, pumps, blowers, and instrumentation.
  • Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, and fittings.
  • Perform manual skilled labor as directed.
  • Use various hand and power tools including: shovels, picks, jackhammers, mowers, gas trimmers, chain saws, brooms, wrenches, hammers including sledge hammers and meter readers.
  • Safely utilize the proper equipment to work in and around confined spaces.
  • Clean and maintain tanks, filter beds and other work areas using hand tools and power tools.
  • Dig trenches or holes and perform in and around excavations.
  • Shovel or vacuum to remove sludge from tanks.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in a construction or service related field, preferably with a specialization in mechanical or plumbing trades. 
  • Possess a Class “A” Drivers License with tankers endorsement, current DOT physical examination card, and clean DMV record.
  • Ability to legally drive and operate passenger and commercial vehicles on all public and/or private roadways.
  • Ability to obtain any/all licenses/certificates related to the industry for heavy equipment operations as required by applicable State, County or Federal law.
  • Ability to obtain any/all licenses/certificates related to the water and wastewater industry such as Collections Grade One and D1.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Possess (or acquire) and bring your own personal handtools, such as screwdriver sets, hammers, pliers, etc,. as a skilled tradesperson.   
  • Use work time efficiently, and prioritize tasks based on importance.
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures.
  • Must be able to report to work in a predictable and reliable manner, at the designated time regardless of the hour and location.
  • Must be comfortable working with various forms of wastewater including sewage and industrial.  
  • Ability to perform labor for prolonged periods of time under varying temperature and climate conditions, including the ability to bend and twist repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, work at varying heights, lift up to 70 lbs routinely, mount and dismount vehicles of varying size as required.
  • Strong senses: vision (both close and depth perception), hearing (warning alarms and oncoming vehicles and equipment), smell (to detect the presence of noxious/toxic fumes or gasses), and touch (dexterity to operate various equipment).
  • Must be willing to regularly work 4/10 hour shifts, and able to work after-hours on-call to include some overtime, weekends, and holidays.

The overall market range for roles in this area of Nviro is typically $34 – $41 an hour depending on experience, licensing, and skill-set.
