Opportunity

Local, self-perform work in a niche and essential industry, building and servicing high-performance water and wastewater treatment plants.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pumps, valves, chlorinators, telemetry controls, sludge presses and other water and wastewater flow regulating controls and equipment.
  • Dig trenches or holes and perform in and around excavations.
  • Shovel and remove sludge.
  • Drive, operate and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and lubricate equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Clean and maintain tanks, filter beds and other work areas using hand tools and power tools.
  • In a training capacity, perform any/all tasks as directed by the field team. 
  • Exert force to move objects up to 70 pounds.
  • Use various hand and power tools including: shovels, picks, jackhammers, mowers, gas trimmers, chain saws, brooms, mops, wrenches, hammers including sledge hammers and meter readers.
  • Turn valves to operate and maintain hydrants, mains and water lines.
  • Safely utilize the proper equipment to work in and around confined spaces.
  • Maintains detailed operational records.
  • Follow direction and work solo or as a member of a team.
  • Perform manual skilled and semi-skilled labor as directed.
  • Ability to legally operate passenger and commercial vehicles on all public and/or private roadways.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of professional experience with plumbing, finish work, welding, or other industrial trades.
  • Ability to obtain any/all licenses/certificates related to the industry as required by applicable State, County or Federal law.
  • Ability to perform labor for prolonged periods of time under varying temperature and climate conditions, including the ability to bend and twist repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, work at varying heights, mount and dismount vehicles of varying size as required.
  • The ability to lift objects weighing over 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Strong senses: vision (both close and depth perception), hearing (warning alarms and oncoming vehicles and equipment), smell (to detect the presence of noxious/toxic fumes or gasses), and touch (dexterity to operate various equipment).
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures.
  • Must be able to report to work in a predictable and reliable manner, at the designated time regardless of the hour and location.
  • Must be available to work overtime or extended shifts as needed.
  • Must be able to work in any and all environmental conditions.
  • At least a valid California Class C Driver’s License, with a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to regularly work 4/10 hour shifts, and able to work after-hours on-call to include some overtime, weekends, and holidays.

The overall market range for roles in this area of Nviro is typically $20 – $26 an hour.
