Opportunity

Nviro is seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Vacuum Truck Operator & Construction Crew Support. This role requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL, Class A or B) with tanker (N) and air brake endorsements strongly preferred. In addition to operating Nviro’s vacuum truck, you will support and learn from our construction crew, gaining exposure to a variety of specialized trades including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and utility operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine skilled equipment operation with hands-on learning in critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

Vacuum Truck Operations

  • Safely drive and operate Nviro’s vacuum truck in compliance with DOT and company regulations.
  • Perform vacuum operations including collection, transportation, and disposal of liquid, sludge, and other materials.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections; maintain accurate driving logs and service records.
  • Safely maneuver the vehicle in diverse environments, including construction sites and treatment facilities.

Construction & Crew Support

  • Perform manual skilled labor as directed.
  • Use various hand and power tools including: shovels, picks, jackhammers, mowers, gas trimmers, chain saws, brooms, wrenches, hammers (including sledgehammers), and meter readers.
  • Perform mechanical, plumbing, and controls troubleshooting on equipment such as valves, pumps, blowers, and instrumentation.
  • Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, and fittings.
  • Safely utilize the proper equipment to work in and around confined spaces.
  • Clean and maintain tanks, filter beds, and other work areas using hand and power tools.
  • Dig trenches or holes and perform work in and around excavations.
  • Shovel or vacuum to remove sludge from tanks.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL (Class A or B required; tanker endorsements).
  • 1 – 5+ years of experience in a construction, service, or heavy equipment operating role.
  • Strong interest and aptitude in mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing trades.
  • Ability to obtain licenses/certificates related to the water and wastewater industry (e.g., Collections Grade One, D1).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to report to varying job sites.
  • Physically able to perform labor for prolonged periods under varying climate conditions: bend, twist, climb stairs/ladders, work at heights, lift up to 70 lbs, and mount/dismount large vehicles.
  • Strong senses (vision, hearing, smell, touch) for safe operation of equipment.
  • Willingness to work a 4/10 schedule and participate in after-hours on-call, including some overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • While the position is based on the Central Coast, projects may extend beyond San Luis Obispo County. Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed to support clients across California.
