Opportunity

Compile project estimates, conduct risk management, and promote business development opportunities in close collaboration with the Division Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, which include scopes such as: concrete, metals, carpentry, plumbing, automation, electrical, earthwork, utilities, water and wastewater equipment. 
  • Create cost breakdowns for high-level project organization and fulfill RFP requirements.
  • Pursue leads and facilitate the prospective client communication, including managing expectations on the proposal timeline.
  • Provide high-level Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates to determine project feasibility.  
  • Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to understand the scope of the project.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical experts to assess design proposals and ensure that all cost factors are considered.
  • Identify any potential design or construction challenges that may impact cost or timeline.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals based on estimated costs, ensuring they align with the project’s scope of work.
  • Analyze competitive bids and work with the procurement team to choose suppliers and subcontractors based on cost-effectiveness, reliability, and quality.
  • Compile all necessary documentation to be included in the proposal, such as cut sheets, conceptual drawings, etc.
  • Develop initial budgets based on cost estimates and help monitor project costs throughout the construction phase.
  • Provide ongoing cost updates and adjust estimates based on any changes or unexpected challenges during construction.
  • Collect and analyze historical data, both internal and external, to inform future estimates.
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties (i.e. changes in regulations, market volatility, weather impacts) that could affect the project’s budget.
  • Develop contingency plans and recommend allowances for unforeseen costs that may arise during construction.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure that the project stays within budget.
  • Discuss project changes with relevant stakeholders and provide updated cost estimates based on design alterations or unforeseen challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another related Engineering discipline preferred.
  • 4+ years proven experience as a Cost Estimator.
  • Strong understanding of commercial, industrial, and heavy civil construction processes.
  • Previous experience in estimating construction costs, particularly in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with construction estimating software for creating detailed and accurate cost estimates.
  • Ability to analyze project documents carefully and account for all cost factors, including indirect costs and risks.
  • Ability to assess project plans and design elements to identify cost-effective solutions and detect potential cost overruns.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and clients.
  • Deep understanding of the materials, construction techniques, and technology used in industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to proactively identify cost-related problems or issues that may arise during the planning or construction phases.
  • Adept in software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and BlueBeam.
  • Ability to adhere to budgets and schedules.
