Industrial Electrician (Controls & Panel Build)

Opportunity

Play a critical role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading the electrical and control systems necessary for water and wastewater plant operations. This role is expected to be approximately 50% control panel build work and 50% in-field electrical support. Schedule: Monday–Friday (5/8s), with after-hours/on-call support as needed.

Responsibilities

Control Panel Assembly 

  • Assemble electrical control panel enclosures by drilling, tapping, and cutting holes for wiring and mounting components.
  • Wire internal components according to diagrams and schematics, ensuring proper routing, labeling, and termination.
  • Verify panel build quality and functionality prior to deployment or installation.

In-Field Electrical Work

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including wiring, transformers, motors, control panels, and related equipment used in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues involving pumps, motors, and control systems critical to treatment and distribution operations.
  • Perform planned and unplanned electrical maintenance to reduce downtime and improve system reliability.
  • Conduct routine inspections to confirm systems meet safety standards and operate effectively.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical problems related to plant machinery and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls to repair electrical systems or equipment impacting plant operations.
  • Plan and execute electrical upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency, increase capacity, and support regulatory compliance.
  • Support instrumentation and control systems, including installing, maintaining, and testing systems such as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for monitoring plant operations.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow all required health and safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety regulations.
  • Ensure all work meets applicable local, state, and national electrical code requirements (e.g., NEC, OSHA).
  • Conduct safety checks and electrical audits and maintain compliance with industry environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and system configurations.
  • Document electrical issues, corrective actions taken, and recommendations for future maintenance or upgrades.
  • Provide detailed reporting to senior staff as needed.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to support smooth facility operations.
  • Partner with engineering teams to implement electrical designs and system improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and vendors to coordinate work and resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with training other staff on electrical safety practices and equipment operation as needed.

Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a journeyman electrician in an industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting, motor controls, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems including power distribution, circuits, motors, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety regulations and code standards including NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools used in the electrical trade.
  • Working knowledge of conduit installation including PVC, EMT, rigid, and aluminum conduit.
  • Strong basic math skills, including measurement conversions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, including in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions including confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor environments, and various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Strong sensory abilities including vision (close vision and depth perception), hearing (warning alarms, vehicles, and equipment), smell (detecting noxious/toxic fumes or gases), and manual dexterity.
  • Must be willing and able to work a 5/8 schedule, including after-hours/on-call work as needed, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays.

The anticipated compensation range for this role is $33 –$45 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
