Project Manager

San Luis Obispo, California

About

Nviro delivers integrated water and wastewater treatment solutions that support a sustainable future. We simplify complex systems through a full-service approach: design, construction, operations, maintenance, compliance, and technology. Our in-house manufacturing capabilities allow us to engineer high-performance equipment tailored to the needs of both industrial facilities and municipalities. At every step, our mission is to leave systems better for our clients, our communities, and the environment.

Opportunity

Nviro is scaling quickly, and we’re seeking a Project Manager to lead multi-million-dollar water and wastewater treatment projects from estimate through commissioning. You’ll build the estimates and bids that win our work. Then you’ll partner with our in-house manufacturing team as the systems are fabricated in our shop, and direct our construction team as they install those systems in the field, giving you ownership of the full project lifecycle. The role requires a technical mindset, strong organizational skills, and the ability to lead diverse teams and stakeholders on the shop floor and the jobsite. It’s based in San Luis Obispo and includes regular travel to project sites for installation, startup, and commissioning. You’ll play a pivotal role in building infrastructure that delivers long-term value to our clients and the environment, and in shaping how a growing company delivers its projects.

Responsibilities

Project Planning & Management

  • Lead the development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans spanning manufacturing and field installation
  • Prepare and manage estimates, proposal bids, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and vendor agreements
  • Partner with Nviro leadership to negotiate contract terms and conditions with clients, balancing customer requirements with Nviro’s standard T&Cs
  • Define goals and technical requirements in collaboration with engineers, environmental specialists, and clients

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for fabricated treatment systems and field installation, including materials, equipment, shop labor, field labor, subcontracts, and indirect costs
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Develop bid strategies, proposals, and pricing in collaboration with engineering and leadership
  • Identify scope gaps, risks, and value-engineering opportunities during bidding
  • Hand off awarded projects with a clear baseline budget and schedule, then use actual costs to refine future estimates
  • Track and control project performance, costs, and timelines to ensure delivery within scope

Manufacturing Partnership

  • Partner with our in-house manufacturing team, working closely with engineering, procurement, and shop leadership to move projects smoothly through fabrication
  • Collaborate with shop leadership to build fabrication schedules that balance shop capacity with installation timelines and client milestones
  • Work with procurement to source equipment, components, and materials, staying ahead of lead times and vendor issues
  • Review shop drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication documents with engineering and the shop so systems are built to specification
  • Coordinate with quality control on inspections, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and client witness testing
  • Plan packaging, shipping, and logistics with the shop team so equipment arrives on site ready for installation

Construction & Installation Oversight

  • Direct our construction team and subcontractors during field installation, coordinating with superintendents, inspectors, consultants, engineers, owners, and suppliers
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits and inspections to verify progress and quality
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, budgets, and documentation throughout installation
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality protocols in both the shop and the field

Technical Coordination

  • Serve as the link between manufacturing and field teams, resolving design, fit-up, and scheduling issues as they arise
  • Ensure system designs meet environmental performance goals and regulatory standards
  • Lead system startup, testing, and commissioning
  • Provide O&M training to facility operators and deliver final turnover documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 7+ years of project management experience in construction, manufacturing, or infrastructure, ideally involving water/wastewater systems
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed, which may include overnight stays during installation and commissioning
  • Experience managing fabricated or packaged equipment projects (e.g., skid-mounted systems, process equipment) strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, and P&IDs
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and process systems
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, teams, and subcontractors on complex, multi-phase projects
  • Proficiency in project management and technical tools such as Microsoft Office and Bluebeam
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse technical and non-technical teams
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred but not required

To thrive in this environment, you must:

  • be a tenacious problem solver,
  • communicate clearly and professionally,
  • work well independently, and with a team,
  • exercise sound judgment,
  • be curious and eager to expand your technical knowledge,
  • care to deliver a positive client experience,
